Roadside re-vegetation with native grasses

In a ditch by a gravel road near Bawlf, Alberta, an effort to re-introduce native prairie grasses and fescues is underway. It takes hundreds of hours to prevent noxious weeds from choking out the delicate tickle grass, blue grama grass or Rocky Mountain fescue before the native plants become established, but (left to right) Brenda Bohmer (landowner), Treva Olson, Lynn Horbasenko, and June Osborne held a work day in mid August to tackle sow thistle and Canada thistle, and keep them from going to seed.
